Department of Thermal Science and Energy Engineering

The Department of Thermal Science and Energy Engineering is anchored in the first-level discipline of Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, which is designated as a key discipline with advantageous characteristics for the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period in Jilin Province's higher education institutions. Its secondary discipline, Thermal Engineering, is a provincial key discipline. The Thermal and Power Engineering Experimental Center is recognized as a Jilin Provincial Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center for Higher Education Institutions, and the Thermal Engineering Laboratory holds the status of a Jilin Provincial Double-Basic Assessment Laboratory. The department currently serves as a governing unit of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics for Higher Education Institutions, a vice-chair unit and executive governing unit of the Jilin Provincial Society of Engineering Thermophysics, a vice-chair unit of the Jilin Provincial HVAC Society, a governing unit of the Jilin Provincial Architectural Society, and a governing unit of the Jilin Provincial Building Energy Efficiency Society.

The Department of Thermal Science and Energy Engineering currently has 3 professors, 6 associate professors, and 5 lecturers, among whom 11 hold doctoral degrees. It also employs 1 research fellow and 3 senior engineers. In scientific research, the department has been awarded 2 Jilin Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards, published over 200 academic papers indexed in SCI and EI, and been granted 16 invention patents.

In the research fields of geothermal energy utilization, subsurface energy storage heat and mass transfer mechanisms, and energy transport control, the department has taken a national lead in conducting experimental engineering research on ground-source geothermal energy utilization. It has undertaken 4 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 2 projects from Jilin Provincial Environmental Protection and Science and Technology Development Funds, and 3 projects from the Changchun Municipal Science and Technology Special Fund.
