On May 13, 2026, Professor Shuzhi Sam Ge, Fellow of the Singapore Academy of Engineering and world-renowned expert in control science and intelligent systems from the National University of Singapore (NUS), was invited to visit the School of Automotive Engineering, Jilin University. Huang Zhonghua, Party Secretary of the School of Automotive Engineering; Gao Zhenhai, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Vehicle Chassis Integration and Bionics; Hu Xingjun and Wang Junnian, Vice Deans of the School; core faculty members from the School and the State Key Laboratory, as well as numerous students attended the event.

Vice Dean Wang Junnian presided over the morning academic seminar. Fellow Ge delivered a cutting-edge academic lecture titled Learning-based Optimized Backstepping Control with Designed System Properties to faculty and students. Taking engineering challenges of vehicle-road-cloud integrated autonomous driving in complex traffic scenarios as the entry point, he systematically shared his team’s internationally recognized research achievements on safety reinforcement learning algorithms based on barrier Lyapunov functions and time-synchronized optimal control. Students raised numerous questions actively afterward, to which Fellow Ge responded patiently and comprehensively.
Vice Dean Hu Xingjun chaired the subsequent special forum between the School and Fellow Ge. Both sides held in-depth discussions covering multiple themes: transformation of cutting-edge research outcomes including high-fidelity vehicle dynamics modeling, tire mechanics test equipment, intelligent chassis design for autonomous vehicles, integrated control of full-active chassis actuation, industrial application of active suspensions, and bionic chassis R&D; application for international joint research projects; and joint training of high-caliber talents. Fellow Ge spoke highly of and praised Jilin University’s landmark original innovations in intelligent new energy vehicles, especially its breakthroughs in chassis technology. The two parties reached important consensus on deepening scientific research collaboration in the future, building collaborative innovation platforms, and advancing industry-university-research integrated cooperation.
In the afternoon session, Fellow Ge toured the School History Exhibition Hall, the State Key Laboratory of Vehicle Chassis Integration and Bionics, and the Yuanmeng Workshop for university student formula racing teams successively.
This visit and academic exchange marks a major international initiative of the School to introduce top-tier academic talents and advance interdisciplinary integration. It not only broadens the academic horizons of faculty and students and enriches the campus academic atmosphere, but also opens new avenues for the School to carry out effective international cooperation and joint talent cultivation in artificial intelligence and vehicle control.
